2022 brings a splitting of pathways, whilst I am still enjoying painting objects in space, reflecting on the power of a manufactured item that has become a familiar companion through life, my work has branched in other directions.
Drawings and paintings exploring remembered spaces has taken me into a liminal space, neither here nor there, but hovering between what was and what is. These images are beginning to illustrate a life lived and may form part of an autobiographical book.
Alongside these thought provoking ideas, I am also creating Matisse inspired cut out collages, these images balance the intensity of reflection with the spontaneous nature of now.
I have been revisiting other works, responding to their incompleteness and adding a freshness to their stories.
With a full program of exhibitions planned for the next two years, I have plenty of inspiration and motivation to keep creating!

2020/21 have been productive years, and with enforced isolation I have produced a new body of work ready to show during the spring/summer.
These new paintings continue several themes; Interiors, both actual and from memory; Dorset Impressions - very small paintings of sea, sky and countryside in and around Dorset and a series of small paintings exploring the creative value of my many objects, these set within landscapes and or abstract spaces.

Bridort Open Studios 2019
This year I am showing in a town centre location - venue 42
I am looking forward to seeing lots of visitors and sharing the joy of colour!
Also showing at The LSI in Bridport and at The Gallery, Symondsbury

Colours of Dorset 2019
Another successful show with Lynne Grace, many visitors and sales encouraging us to book again for next year!

The winter of 2018/19 is giving me a time to reflect on my practice and develop my interest in interiors.
I am creating a range of large and small paintings using my home and studio as inspiration, these are in progress.

Alongside these paintings I am working from my early memories of interiors, those places where I spent my childhood and glimpsed into the world my parents were making for themselves.
Beginning with small sketch book pieces and then working these up
into large A1 drawings I am exploring an alternative way to express myself.
All new work will be shown at Eype Centre for the Arts in June/July 2019.

The winter of 2017/18 was a productive time for me. I have been attempting to paint more intuitively, allowing the process to move at its own pace, exploring the potential of colour with expressive mark making, while continuing to be inspired by the Dorset coastal landscapes and interiors.

Subjects have included landscape views from my studio, sea side images and cats, with sizes ranging from 16x11cm to 102x102cm.
I have produced 30 + new paintings to be exhibited with other recent work, over the summer of 2018 across 5 venues.

See Home page and About for more details.

Hello Dorset!

Free to be...
Come to Dorset Art Weeks to see this new series of paintings celebrating my arrival in Dorset. I am surrounded by beautiful countryside and a stunning coastline full of colour and mystery!

Greetings cards of this and other paintings in the series will be available from www.lovefromtheartist.com following open studios.
This painting is the second in the series
oil on canvas 91cm x 91cm

2016 promises to be a year of transition...After many years of working directly from observation, I will be focusing my attention on the study of planes and surfaces and the spaces in between.
The theme of interior and exterior landscapes with reduced detail and enhanced use of complimentary colours to direct the eye into an uncertain scene, one of familiarity and oddness, inviting the viewer to wonder at the narrative and /or create their own.

*Greetings cards available of these paintings

Welcome to Skylark Studio...
Skylark studio welcomed many visitors and together we had a very successful Open Studio - thanks to everyone  who came and enjoyed!
2014 marks the beginning of a new approach to my image making, concentrating on observation from nature and domestic environments.
I will be focusing on depth, and spatial relationship between objects and context, limiting my palette to enhance a feeling of time and place.
